About the Book
In her book, The Guiding Philosophy for the Future of Healthcare: It’s Not What You Think … Actually It is What You Think, Nancy Gordon reiterates the theme that “life is an inside job.” From solving problems with finances, relationships to health, we need to look within and stop searching without. The balance we are all seeking can be found when we turn our focus on the “inside”…to what we think, feel, and believe about ourselves, other people, and the world. By having grateful, healthy, life-affirming thoughts, we will, in turn, have healthier bodies; likewise, if mankind has more peaceful thoughts, we will see more peace in the world.
Nancy tackles this discussion by first addressing seven core challenges facing today’s healthcare:
• The failure to understand and treat mind, body and spirit as one
• The rising cost of healthcare
• The transition from a healing profession to a high-dollar business
• The emphasis on “outside fixes” versus “inside changes”
• The lack of truly preventive solutions
• The use of linear thinking to solve health issues
• The misunderstanding of how the world actually works
She then describes a new philosophy of healthcare that focuses on a more holistic approach to healthcare—one that is built on the concept that the body, mind, and spirit are fully connected. She explains that we must shift our focus from treatment to prevention in a way that puts each one of us back in the driver’s seat of our own health and well-being. This shift will happen only when we clearly understand how to use our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs as tools to help create health and well-being. Nancy concludes her book with an inspirational description of the future where each of us adopts this new philosophy on healthcare, one thought at a time.
